Different Types of Flu

There are many types of flu. Most people are only aware of large variation types. The Bird Flu and Swine Flu are both variants of the flu that saw big news coverage and lead many people to buy flu vaccine to fight off these strains of illness before they got sick. However, what many people don’t realize is that the normal seasonal flu also comes in different strains every year.

The flu is a viral infection and one that has been prevalent for a very long time. The flu virus did not survive so long by staying stagnant. It changes from year to year becoming slightly different in order to bypass the body’s natural antibodies which is why you are able to catch it year after year. In this way it works much like the common cold but with much harsher effects on the body. The flu is a much more severe illness needing many days to fully recover from and causing very serious symptoms in the people who catch it.

When presenting with flu symptoms it is important to properly identify what strains of the flu virus you care carrying or if it is even the flu at all. Flu test kits can identify if it’s just a bad chest cold or perhaps everything something like pneumonia or some other ailment that will need different treatment than that of the flu. This is why Doctors go the extra mile to perform these checks to ensure that the patient receives the correct care the first time and can get healthy and back on their feet in no time.
