Beat the Flu in Four Easy Steps

If you’re sick with the flu, treatment is likely a top priority. Being sick with the flu can affect every aspect of your life. You may have to take time off from work or school, which can result in getting behind on daily activities.

Fortunately, there are several quick remedies for the flu.

1. Rest is important. Proper rest and sleep can boost your immune system and help you overcome the virus faster. Sleep at least eight hours a night and take time off from work and school.

2. Increase your vitamin C intake. You can do this with a vitamin supplement or orange juice. Orange juice is a better option than sugary drinks and soda.

3. Take over-the-counter medications. Many drugs are designed to treat symptoms, such as a sore throat, cough, congestion and a runny nose. Take medication at the first sign of symptoms and take these drugs as directed.

4. Don’t be afraid to visit the doctor. While the flu doesn’t always justify a trip to the doctor, a doctor can use flu test kits to confirm presence of the flu virus. Flu test kits are very easy to use. Your doctor will swab your mouth and run the test in the office. In less than 15 minutes, you’ll know whether you’re sick with the flu or another condition.
