This holiday season, be prepared to keep your health in good condition as this is the season in which everybody is vulnerable to sickness. The most common illness you should watch out is influenza or flu. Unfortunately, even healthy people may sometimes become a victim of it. Therefore, it is recommended to become 100% healthy.
Winter season is also a season for flu and colds. There are some occurrences of stomach ache and toothache, but flu and fever are the ones most likely to strike anyone. There are many ways to avoid getting sick during the holiday season. To give you an idea, here are some effective ways to do it:
Increase Supplement Dosage
If you take multivitamins, there is no need to change them. Keep on taking them regularly. In order to increase your supplements, what you need to add is the dosage for water soluble vitamins such as vitamin C and B complex. It is because there is toxicity in fat-soluble vitamins such as vitamin A and E, especially in mega dosage.
For water soluble vitamins, anything in excess will just be flashed out through your urine. Vitamin C is the most common vitamin that can prevent fever and flu. A minimum of 1,000mg per day may be recommended. You can increase it up to 2,000mg per day as long as you take it right after a meal in order to avoid hyper acidity. After the cool season, you can decrease it back to RDA of 500mg per day.
Schedule for a Flu Shot
Every year, you should schedule to have a flu shot even if you are already healthy and have consistently done that annually According to Mayo Clinic, “new flu vaccines are released every year to keep up with rapidly adapting flu viruses.” This means flu viruses continue to develop high resistance to every vaccine. What you had before may no longer be effective in preventing flu in the long run.
Flu shots are recommended not only for children but also for everybody. Once you are vaccinated, you wouldn’t have to worry about getting sick this season. It is much better to spend some money for your flu shot than to spend more for any possible hospitalization.
Eat Plenty of Fruit
Fruits are the most powerful means to fight all types of diseases. For the prevention of colds and flu, citrus and blueberries are ideal. You can also drink some natural fruit juice or eat some fruit salad. Oranges and mangoes are rich in vitamin C, and you can eat them while still taking your vitamin C supplement.
Have Enough Sleep
Our body rejuvenates when we sleep. It is during such a period that dead cells are replaced and damaged tissues are being repaired. Eight hours of sleep per day is recommended by many experts and between 10:00 pm and 2:00 am is the best time we should be sleeping.
It is also when we sleep that our immune system fights all types of diseases. Therefore, do not deprive yourself of the time to recharge and rejuvenate. Take note that your eight hours of sleep must be continuous and not staggered.
Nobody wants to get sick, and everyone seems to be doing everything to avoid it. However, sickness still seems to be unavoidable, especially in cool season. Therefore, being healthy all the time will reduce the risk of getting sick in an untimely manner. The above tips may help you avoid such risk. Nevertheless, it is still recommended to see your doctor if symptoms persist.
