Pre Book Your Influenza Vaccine Now

It’s that time of year again to be planning for the fall influenza vaccine season.

There are two types of influenza vaccines:

1. The “flu shot”— an inactivated vaccine (containing killed virus) that is given with a needle, usually in the arm. The flu shot is approved for use in people older than 6 months, including healthy people and people with chronic medical conditions. More…

2. The nasal-spray flu vaccine — a vaccine made with live, weakened flu viruses that do not cause the flu (sometimes called LAIV for “live attenuated influenza vaccine” or FluMist®). LAIV (FluMist®) is approved for use in healthy* people 2-49 years of age† who are not pregnant. More…

The viruses in the vaccine change each year based on international surveillance and scientists’ estimations about which types and strains of viruses will circulate in a given year. The seasonal vaccine is typically a three component vaccine which protects against the three viruses that research suggests will be most common during the following season and WHO recommends specific virus strains that can be used for vaccine production.

It is recommended that the following viruses be used for influenza vaccines in the 2010-2011 influenza season (northern hemisphere):

• an A/California/7/2009 (H1N1)-like virus;
• an A/Perth/16/2009 (H3N2)-like virus;*
• a B/Brisbane/60/2008-like virus.

*A/Wisconsin/15/2009 is an A/Perth/16/2009 (H3N2)-like virus and is a 2010 southern hemisphere vaccine virus.

Last year, there was a shortage in the vaccine production brought on by the emergence of the H1N1 strain. Many doctor’s offices were left with no flu vaccine to give their patients as the manufacturers simply ran out after filling what orders they could. This is why it is VITAL that you get your pre-books in now, to ensure you get at the front of the line to get your vaccines this year.
Express Medical supplies has made it easy this year to pre-book. Simply go to our Pre-Book page, located here, and fill it out and hit the submit button. One of our customer service agents will get back in touch with you to work out the details. Simple as that!

    Can I just say what a relief to find someone who actually knows what theyre talking about on the internet. You definitely know how to bring an issue to light and make it important. More people need to read this and understand this side of the story. I cant believe youre not more popular because you definitely have the gift.
